American Legion Benefit: Alarms and Sprinklers

By Larry Kennedy
Hopefully, the small particles of water under pressure may never be used or seen; but if needed, members and guests at Epping American Legion Post 51 will be prepared. Proceeds from several benefits will be utilized for a fire alarm system for the post and sprinklers. This action will be in compliance with town and state fire code regulations. One event brought in more than $4,000 with the top prize being a laptop computer. Seated, from left, are Paul Franks, Jessica Houle, Bill Weinhold, Chairman of House Committee, and Eric Gregg, Commander. Shown standing, are Charlie Brown, Sr., Bill Hansen, Dean Nash, Joann Nash, Shawn Perrault, Joyce “Pit Bill” Murnane, Crystal Rooks, Mike Murphy, Ray Perrault, John Froehling,  Kevin Murnane, and Alaina Murphy. The post headquarters is located on Route 125 in Epping and offers many events to its neighbors and the general public.

A long, double column of American Legion Riders Chapter 2, set out on Sunday morning from Post 7 in Rochester on a charity run for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. They were heading for Gunstock to rendezvous with other Chapters and other sponsors from throughout the state.

Symbolically leading Chapter 2, for the first few yards, was young Maxwell Haslim of Barrington, whose uncle Dwayne passed away from the disease about three years ago. Behind him, on the left are his parents, Donald and Victoria, and on the right is his grandfather, Dan Daigle (with his grandmother, Michelle, just out of the photo). Behind Dan is John Froehling of Chapter 2, who is also the A.L. Riders state director. Late reports say that $19,000 was raised, statewide, for the cause.
